ARTHUR THRALL (1926 –)
Arthur Thrall is an artist and teacher of tremendous accomplishment. 34 years of teaching at Milwaukee-Downer College and Lawrence University in Appleton is combined with major exhibitions throughout the US and internationally and work placed in hundreds of public and private collections. Initially a realist in style and subject matter, Arthur’s prints and paintings over many decades have been notable for his delicate, controlled and sensuous use of line. Winner of numerous awards, Thrall also held the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Grant, had work exhibited in the White House, been a visiting professor at UW Madison, University College Slade School of Art and Morley College (England) and taught in Finland.. Retirement from teaching in 1990 has not diminished Arthur’s career as he continues to make prints and be recognized with awards and invitations to exhibit his work nationally.
SIDENOTE: Arthur might be related to me! As A GIRL who opened her adoption at age 22, I still wonder about my relatives – I never met my mother who was a Thrall from Minocqua, WI. I am posting more about my New Hampshire ancestors soon, too. Maybe someone will read this and email me and say HEY WE ARE RELATIVES… lara/trace
